Specializing in fat-quarter-friendly patterns, Morgan McCollough enjoys designing traditional block based quilts with a modern flair.

While she originally learned to quilt from her mother as a young child, it wasn't until she was pregnant with her first daughter that she rediscovered her love for quilting. Unable to find crib bedding that she liked, she decided to make her own, and the rest is history.

Quilting has been an amazing creative outlet for me, and with frequent moves due to my husband’s career in the US Air Force, it’s been a skill I’ve been able to take around the world. My main goal with starting my business, Modernly Morgan, has been to create patterns that appeal to a wide range of quilters, and to inspire a love of quilting for those who are just starting out.

 

What is your favorite color?

Pink..any shade!

What is your favorite season and why?

Fall because the weather is starting to cool off and it’s the perfect time to start sewing more quilts! You can never have too many, right?!

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I’m 100% a night owl...I wish I was a morning person but I’m guilty of always staying up too late trying to accomplish everything that I didn’t get done during the day.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a marine biologist. I went through a few years where I was obsessed with whales and dolphins, and could recite tons of facts about them!  haha

What inspires you daily?

My two daughters. It’s very important for me to set a good example for them and because of that, I’m motivated to keep striving to be better at what I do.

What is your favorite food?

Jelly Belly Jelly Beans...Juicy Pear is the best flavor of them all!

Where was your best vacation?

Edinburgh, Scotland! We lived in England for three years while my husband was stationed at a base there and it was easy to take the train to Scotland. It’s such a fun city! On one specific trip, I had my husband hold a quilt in front of Edinburgh Castle for photos while tons of tourists looked at us in pure confusion. Ha! Is it really a vacation if you don’t bring a quilt for a fun glamour shot?!

A League of Their Own and Tom Hanks.

What are the words you live by?

“Don’t Overthink It!” Easier said than done, right?  But I’m often guilty of second guessing myself, and always have to remind myself to not overthink everything I do.
