Dapper Squares Quilt

Dapper Squares Quilt

Written by:

Hello!  My name is Erica and, while I have posted a few quilts here before, it has been a very long time and I am excited to be back, especially with this beautiful woven fabric.  It is wonderful to work with and so, so very soft.  It was so soft that I had to hand quilt it; to see a closeup of the quilting check out my post at kitchentablequilting.com.

This quilt/project finishes at 56" x 70".

1 Fat Quarter Bundle {Dapper Wovens by Luke Haynes}
7/8 yard Dapper Pavement for the side/corner triangles
4 1/2  yards Dapper Evening Asphalt for the backing
1/2 yard Dapper Dusk Mountain for the binding

From each fat quarter cut:

A: (1) 5.5" x 5.5"

B: (1) 5.5" x 3" and (1) 3" x 8"

C: (1) 3" x 8" and (1) 3" x 10.5"

This will give you (30) of each A, B, and C.  You actually need (32) of them for the quilt, so go back and cut (2) more As, Bs, and Cs from your favorite fabrics.

From the background fabric, cut (2) strips 15.5" x WOF (width of fabric).  From each of these strips, cut (2) 15.5" x 15.5" and (1) 8" x 8".  (You need (4) 15" squares and (2) 8" squares total).

For each block you will need an A piece, one set of B pieces, and one set of C pieces.  Try to mix up the colors and prints for each blocks for plenty of variety.

To assemble the blocks:

  1.  Sew a 3" x 5.5" B piece onto a 5.5" square.
  2. Add a 3" x 8" B piece.
  3. And a 3" x 8" C piece.
  4. And a 3" x 10.5" C piece.

Repeat 31 more times with the remaining fabrics.

Now take your background fabrics.

  • Cut the 15.5" squares along the diagonal twice, making an X to make the side triangles.  This will cut your square into 4 triangles.  You need 14 total.
  • Cut the 8" squares along the diagonal once to cut your squares into 2 triangles.  This will make the corner triangles.  You need 4 total.

Lay your quilt out like the image below.

And piece together into diagonal rows.

And then sew together the diagonal rows.

Baste, quilt, and bind as desired.

This super snuggly quilt finishes at 56" x 70".

Happy quilting! If you would like to see more of my quilts you can find me at kitchentablequilting.com or as ericajackman on Instagram.
