Merry Christmas -- a little early! I'm Alison from Little Bunny Quilts and I'm back to share a fun tutorial that's perfect for confident beginners! This fun Christmas quilt was made with Overnight Delivery from Sweetwater -- start your version now so you don't have to worry about overnight delivery in time for the holidays!

This quilt finishes at 60 inches square -- a perfect throw for snuggling with some cocoa by the fire!

1 Jelly Roll Overnight Delivery by Sweetwater (Note: you will NOT use the entire Jelly Roll!)
2 yards background fabric (I used a white on white print from the Overnight Delivery line)
3.5 yards backing fabric (I used the red large text print)
1/2 yard binding fabric (I used the green, black, and white diagonal plaid)

From your background cut the following:

Twenty six (26) 6.5" squares

Twenty four (24) 8.5" x 2.5" rectangles

Twenty Four (24) 12.5" x 2.5" rectangles

From your Jelly Roll, pick 13 pairs of contrasting strips -- I chose one dark and one light in my pairs. You will not use all of your jelly roll strips, so you can feel flexible to not use repeats if you'd like!

Each pair of contrasting strips will become one large bowtie block. From the darker strip, cut twelve (12) 2.5" squares. From the lighter strip, cut eight (8) 2.5" squares. Save the remainders of the strips for your log cabin blocks.

Using 10 dark squares and 8 light squares, sew together two matching nine patches. Using your remaining two dark squares, add them as stitch and flip corners on two 6.5" background squares.

Combine two stitch and flip corner units and two nine patch units to create one large bowtie block. Repeat with the remaining 12 pairs of Jelly Roll strips to make a total of 13 large bowtie blocks that measure 12.5" unfinished.

From the remaining jelly roll strips or from the bowtie block scraps, cut 48 light 2.5" squares. Use these squares to create 12 four patch blocks. These will become the center of your log cabin alternate blocks. You can also strip piece these blocks, if you so chose, which is what I did.

From your remaining darker jelly roll strips or from the bowtie block scraps, cut 24 rectangles 4.5" x 2.5" and 24 rectangles 8.5" x 2.5". These will become the first round of logs around your four patches. Add two 4.5" x 2.5" rectangles to opposite sides of the four patch, then sew two 8.5" x 2.5" rectangles to the remaining two sides.

Repeat this process to add the 8.5" x 2.5" background strips and then the 12.5" x 2.5" background strips to each log cabin block. These blocks will measure 12.5" unfinished. Make a total of 12 log cabin blocks.

Lay out your quilt as shown below, alternating between bowtie and log cabin blocks.

Quilt and bind as desired. I quilted my quilt with large loops and semi-whimsical stars for a merry motif. I used the diagonal plaid binding for the look of bias binding without the bias stretching!

This quilt finishes at 60" square. The day that I took the pictures of this quilt outside was the hottest day of the year thus far in Maryland, quite a contrast from the Christmas theme of this quilt!

Thank you for letting me share this easy quilt with you today! As I noted above, you will actually use about 30 of your 40 Jelly Roll strips for this quilt - so you should have enough leftover strips to bind the quilt if you so choose.
